agged with the nickname Three Finger because he lost part of his index finger in a farm-machinery accident in his youth, Mordecai Brown was one of the best National League pitchers in the early 20th century. With 239 victories, Brown's winning percentage was a lofty .648. He posted six 20-win seasons and rivaled Christy Mathewson as the best in the league, defeating Big Six on nine consecutive occasions. Brown's Chicago Cubs won four National League pennants and two World Series championships.
