Patrick James O'Neill, 64, one of the last enlisted pilots in the Marine Corps to retire, died of cancer Wednesday at the Balboa Naval Hospital.

Mr. O'Neill, a captain in the Marines, was a pilot for 31 years. He was a member of the Flying Peons, a pilots' association for enlisted Marines. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was based in San Diego for a portion of his career.

Born in Long Beach on Jan. 21, 1921, Mr. O'Neill was reared in San Diego. He graduated from Saint Augustine High School in San Diego in 1940. He enlisted in the Marines shortly thereafter.

He is survived by his wife, Anna L., and their six children, Kathleen Kenyon of Darien, Conn., Peggy Daughtry of Torrance, Patrick III of Imperial Beach, Michael of Chula Vista, Maureen O'Neill of Mission Beach and Daniel of Carlsbad.

Memorial services will be tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Saint Charles Roman Catholic Church in Imperial Beach. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Point Loma. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
