My Uncle Howard Brooker and his sister Alice Brooker were adopted in 1933. Their birth surname is Richards. Alice is my mother. I have a letter written by him as follows: Dear Alice, Well how is everything around home these days- fine I hope. I guess you thought I wasn't going to answer your letter. Well, everything up here is running like a bunch of busy little bees. Well I sure hope I get to come home on leave pretty soon. Here it's been going on this way- Oh, almost two years now, and I haven't gotten home yet. Well, I am working at the flour mill on my days off hours so will be able to tuck a little money away to see my dream come true, that is if I don't get transferred to sea duty, which might happen at any time. If I don't get it in November it will be one or two years til I can get one. Heard anything from Arthur yet? I sure hope he is coming along well. Well how is Janice and John getting along? OK, I hope you'll say hello to everybody for me. I better shove off for work, So Long, Love, your Bud, Howard.
