WWII — Delavan, Wisconsin
My father was not required to go into the service for a very long time because he was manufacturing the Borg Instrumentation for the airplanes used in WWII. Eventually he had to go. He enlisted in the Navy. There came a day when they were told to get their affairs in order because they were going to the Pacific to fight the Japanese and they not expected to survive. The line was long and so my married father joined that long, slow, agonizing line. Finally he reached the table and it was his turn to get his orders, they looked at him and said, " We have all that we need - you are free to go home for the weekend" He did and never had to go oversees because this was close to the end of the war.
