_The following was told to Bill Carr (brother of _AOM2c Stan Carr) during a visit to Bill Rozmislowicz's home in Hillsboro Illinois on April 30th, 2002. His wife Artie and daughter Florence were both there also.

Bill Rozmislowicz was on the USS Saratoga before he was attached to VT-1 and the Yorktown. One day when a supply ship was transferring a prop to their ship the wind started the prop turning and it knocked three of them overboard. All were picked up but he was in the water for about 4 hours before the destroyer picked him up. He was brought into New Hebrides and stayed there awhile.

During the June 16th 1944 strike on Iwo Jima Ltjg Kalousek’s plane was hit by A/A that left a large hole in the wing and damaged the hydraulic system. Bill and two other mechanics worked through the night with only a chain-hoist to lift with and had the plane ready to fly the next morning.

Bill said he went on several torpedo and bomb runs with VT-1 but his superiors said for him to not go on any more as they needed mechanics and didn't want to risk him.
