Stories about Frederick Graf

He served in the quartermaster corps. Fred served with Earl H. Hamner, Jr in France.  Earl joined the quartermaster corps one month after D-Day when in France an officer found out he could type. He may have met Fred at that time. When Earl's first book was published, he sent signed copies to his former comrades.

Fred's reserve unit was called up during the Korean Conflict. His unit was to test cold weather gear on Mt. Washington in NH. He and his men wore the gear on the mountain and quickly found it did not keep the men warm. He marched in unit down the mountain. His Lt. threatened to court martial him if he did not get his men back up the mountain and test the gear. Fred told him to go ahead and charge him because he would win having already tested the gear.
