William "Billy" Reith, a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp in WWII served with the 62nd Bomber Squadron, 39th Bomber Group. Billy was a Superfortress Flight Engineer and his plane was shot down near the Marianas on May 24, 1945. He was listed as Missing in Action and his body never recovered. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. He was 28 years old and the only son of six children born to William Anthony Reith and Georgiana Gibbons Reith of Washington D.C.
