Robert M McDowell Jr enlisted in the Army 2 January of 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the 448th Bomb Group, 2nd Air Division of the 8th Air Force. He was stationed at Seething in England during WWII.
Robert also served during the Korean conflict. He was stationed with the 57th Maintenance Squadron, at Elmendorf AFB, AK and then transferred to Eglin AFB in FL. His assignment was with the 3211th Field Maintenance Squadron until 1960. He was appointed as a Warrant Officer and an aircraft maintenance officer.
During the years 1960-1962, Robert served in the 13th AF in the 405th Fighter Squadron at Clark AFB in the Philippines. He served as an aircraft maintenance officer.
In 1962, Robert was transferred to the 4108th Organizational Maintenance Shop of the 497th Refueling Wing, 8th AF Plattsburgh AFB, NY.
In 1964 Robert was transferred to the Organizational Maintenance Shop 509th Bomb Wing 8th AF at Pease AFB, NH.
Robert retired from the US Air Force in 1968 as a Chief Warrant Officer, W-4 Aircraft Maintenance Officer. After completing 27 years of military service, Robert and his family returned to Ft Walton Beach, FL.
