Kamikazi Attack on U.S.S. Lindsey

Eugene E. Lindsey, a naval aviator was killed in action 4 June 1942 in the Battle of Midway. The destroyer bearing his name, U.S.S. Lindsey (DD-771), was launched 5 March 1944. The ship was reclassified as DM-32 on 19 July and was commissioned 20 August 1944.

The Lindsey was attacked by Japanese kamikazi pilots and suffered severe damage. Although the ship didn't sink there were 57 sailors who died and another 57 injured.
