Harold Dean "Red" Buswell, 80, of Ipava died at 5:16 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Newark, Mo., a son of George Otis and Viola Ocie Wright Buswell. He married Vernadene Klinedinst on Nov. 14, 1947, in Ipava. She died Oct. 3, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by six brothers, Kenneth, Edgar, Earl, Jennings, Dennis "Junior" and Wayne; and three sisters, Silvia Stokes, Maurine Stokes and Estelle Buswell.

Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline (and Robert) Grieves of Lacon and Janell (and Carlos) Olvera of Peoria; two sons, George (and Nancy) and Gregory, both of Ipava; two sisters, Virginia Baker and Geneva Bevans, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

He was an Army National Guard veteran, serving from 1948 to 1950.

He had worked as a carpenter and farmer in the Ipava area.

He was a member of the Prairie Farm Dairy Association and the Fulton County Farm Bureau, serving as a former president.

He also served on the Ipava City Council.

He was a member of Berean Christian Church in Ipava, where services will be at 10 a.m. today with Rev. Kevin Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria, where military rites will be accorded by Ipava American Legion Post 17. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ipava Rescue Squad or his church.
