Mrs. Miriam A. Gummere

87, formerly of 828 N. Prairie St., Galesburg, died at 5 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2002 in Rosewood Care Center.
She was born November 5, 1915 in Yates City, the daughter of Charles Van and Mabel Comer Bird. She married Clarence Gummere on August 17, 1941 in The Little Brown Church in the Vail, Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1987.
Surviving is a daughter: Ellen (and Robert) Garvey, Eldon, MO and a granddaughter: Caroline (and Gavin) Kanable, Centerton, Arkansas, who helped care for her. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Phyllis Antoinette “Toni” Gummere, a brother, and a sister.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933 and from Brown’s Business College in Galesburg.
She was of Catholic faith. She was a member of the Galesburg Art Guild, was past president of the Girl Scout’s Midwest Council, and was active in the Knox College Art Department.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Friday December 20, 2002 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with prayer services at 3:00 PM. Graveside memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday December 21, 2002 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, IL. Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
