Dale C. Kellogg, 85, of Elyria, a former city offical, died
Sunday at the home of his daughter in South Bend, IN, after a short illness. Born in Norwalk, he lived in Elyria since 1946.
A former City Council, member he became the city's safety
service director in 1959 & chairman of the city's Charter Commission in 1964. In the early 1960's, he became a deputy registrar for the State bureau of Motor Vehicles.
In 1969, he was appointed to the city auditor's post.
For 30 years, he was a timekeeper at Bendix, before retiring
in 1972. Before moving to Elyria, he taught history & biology in the 7th & 8th grades at a school in Brownhelm Township. Mr. Kellogg also was known for his activities in genealogy & historical groups. He wrote wrote at least four books on families,including one of his own. He was able to trace his own family's history back to 1716.
He joined the Lorain County Historical Society in 1950 and
became a volunteer director in 1979. He also helped build the Hicks Memorial Library,known for its large collection of catalogued reference materials. He also was a very active member in the Ohio Genealogical Society. He also enjoyed bird-watching.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline (nee Underwood), daughters Diane Cauffman of South Bend, and Linda Palmer of Modesto, CA; a son, Terry,of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren; 8 gr-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Brown of Peru, OH.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane, in 1988, & a sister,Joyce Claus.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday & Thursday at the Laubenthal-DeCarlo Funeral Home, 257 Washington Ave., Elyria,where services will be at 8 PM Thursday.
Burial will be in Hester Cemetery in Peru, OH
