Following Allied control of Germany after WWII, on September 6, 1949, Allies relinquish control of former Nazi assets to the newly formed German government. With the fall of Berlin in May 1945, under the insurgence of the Red Army, the Allied nations, consisting of Great Britain, Russia, France, and the United States, occupied Nazi Germany, taking control of all property and assets. With the institution of the Marshall Plan and European reconstruction, Germany began to rebuild both socially and economically. Nazi possessions were very valuable, and funded a great deal of the costs for the new organization.
