A prelude to the 1776 Declaration of Independence, on May 30, 1775, the Mecklenburg Resolutions were accepted, encouraging the Colonies to become independent from England. Several local groups throughout the colonies created such documents, each with supreme anti-British sentiment and hostility. The resolutions were adopted just days after the Battle of Lexington and Concord, and strengthened the resolve of the colonists to avoid British interference.
