Just ten years after his historic discovery of the "New World" in 1492, on May 9, 1502, Christopher Columbus set sail for his final journey to the Americas. The discovery of a clear path to India, as was the original purpose of initial voyage, never occurred, despite Columbus expedition along the Panamania isthmus. Columbus was also appointed governor of a New World colony, which ultimately was disastrous, leaving him to ponder his own successes as explorer.
