B-29 SUPERFORTRESS

315th Bombardment Wing

  • Pacific

These are notes and records associated with my grandfather, Charles Edward Lees, who served in the 315th during WWII.

The 315th Bombardment Wing flew 15 combat bombing missions on the Japanese home island targets shown in the above map. The missions began on June 26, 1945 when 33 B-29 aircraft dropped 223 tons of bombs on the Utsube River Oil Refinery in Yokkaichi, Japan. The last mission flown was on August 14, 1945 when 134 aircraft dropped 954 tons of bombs on the Nippon Oil Refinery located in Tsuchizaki, Japan.

My uncle has put together a website dedicated to the 315th, you can check it our here:

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered -
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
