One of the most important government offices, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Labor, was formed on Feb. 14, 1903. The goal of the organization was to create jobs for Americans, thus stabilizing a better way of life for the average American. Primarily concerned with economic growth, the department played an influential role throughout the Great Depression.
