In a landmark State of the Union speech on January 4, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson outlined his plan for a "Great Society," presenting ideas for organizations and cabinet initiatives to combat poverty and misrepresentation in the United States.  This furthered the ideals shared by the late President Kennedy, and his "New Frontier" ideal for the nation.
