Camp Ford living after the Battle of Red River,LA
In digging about my family, I find my great grandfather Bryant was captured in this battle, and that he survived and was paroled. At the rist of causing problems, the officer will be nameless, but evidently the officer in charge didn't plan to well. Among others the 19th Kentucky Infantry was surrounded and had to surrender to the CSA. Ther were casualties, but the rest were marched to Camp Ford over in East Texas. It was a very crude affair, with the soldiers scrounding to dig latrines, and put of some sort of shelters. If you go to this website, there are sketches and stores about this particular camp and the treatment. My greatgrandfather was there about four months, no doubt the longest of his life. He got home, married and had several children, including my grandmother.
