Marie M. Hicks, 75, `Go-Go Granny'
LAS VEGAS - Marie M. Hicks, 75, of Las Vegas, formerly of Dunellen, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2005) at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas.
She was born in Newark and lived in Dunellen for 30 years before moving to Las Vegas 18 years ago.
Mrs. Hicks was a wife and homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunellen. She was a Girl Scout leader. Marie was a dance instructor in Newark, danced under the instruction of Peggy Ryan and was known as "Go-Go Granny."
She was a volunteer with the senior citizens and other charities in Las Vegas. She was a member of the Senior Volunteer Program, giving 1,000 hours of her time.
Marie is the wife of George Hicks of Las Vegas; and mother of Victoria Hughes of Morristown, Maria Ferguson of Ortley Beach, Kathy Jacobsen of Annandale, Claire Knapp of Avenel and George Hicks Jr. and James Hicks, both of Las Vegas. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, John and Matthew Puckhaber, Kirstie and John-Paul Ferguson, William and Christopher Hughes, Karl and Kurt Jacobsen, Albert Knapp Jr., and Marie Knapp, Chantale, Spencer and Althea Hicks.
Services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Donations to the Salvation Army will be accepted in her name.
