L M Gray was the first person from Livingston Co., Missouri that died in WWII.

Lawrence M. Gray

Lawrence was the first child of Edward E. Gray and Bessie A. Moore, born June 29, 1921 in Wheeling, Missouri.  He has two younger sisters, Mary 5 years younger and Leona 7 years younger.  He graduated from high school in 1939 and enlisted in the Navy on January 19, 1940.  His first assignment was the USS Arizona and reported aboard at Peal Harbor, Territory of Hawaii on March 26, 1940.  Mr. and Mrs Edward Gray were notified December 21, 1941 by the Navy Department that Lawrence was missing.  Lawrence's life ended at the ago of 20, after serving in the Navy for approximately two years.
