The estate inventory of Richard Jenkins, filed in April of 1857, lists the names of 150 slaves on the Jenkins plantation on Wadmalaw Island, Charleston District, SC, and 20 slaves on St. Helena Island, Beaufort District, SC.

Historical Background

The Jenkins family owned plantations on Wadmalaw Island, Edisto Island and at Toogoodoo, all in Colleton and Charleston counties in SC [1]. Known Jenkins family plantations on Wadmalaw were Rackett Hall [2] and Rockville. On Edisto the Jenkins family plantation was called Brick House. Other plantations in the Jenkins family include Mackay's Point [3].
