Armsted Burt Noble III

Ted Noble was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Baytown, Tx in 1943. He was a Staff Sergeant during World War II in the Army Air Corps where he was a B-17 ball turret gunner. He was attached to the 772nd Bomb Squadron, 463rd Bomb Group, 15th Air Force, which was based in Foggia, Italy. He was wounded in action in October, 1944 and was hospitalized for three months. He had just returned to action with a new plane and crew, after recovering from the wounds when his plane was shot down over Berlin and he was killed. His body was recovered from the civilian cemetery at Heidersdorf, Germany and returied to the U.S. Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Beigium. Sergeant Noble was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster. He was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church in Baytown, Tx. He was latter brought back to Texas and buried at Cedarcrest Cemetery in 1950, next to his father who died shortly after receiving news of his son listed as missing in action. Ted Noble's plane was shot down on March 24, 1945 and his father, Armsted Burt (AB) Noble Jr., died on April 21, 1945.
