illiam Manley Dexter enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in October 1940, then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1941. In June of 1942 he transferred to the US Marine Corps and trained to fly the SBD Dauntless dive bomber. He was killed in a plane crash on 26 May 1943 while serving with VMSB-151 at Tutuila, Samoa.
