Lindy Donald Browning Obituary

A graveside memorial service for Mr. Lindy Donald Browning, age 87 of Spartanburg, SC, will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Ashland City Cemetery. The United States Navy will render military honors. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45: A.M.

Mr. Browning passed away on December 21, 2014 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born October 19, 1927, in Millerville, AL, he was the son of the late John Daniel Browning and Dora Lee Lowry Browning. Mr. Browning was a U.S. Navy veteran and one of six brothers who served in World War II; he also served in the U.S. Air Force and attended Auburn University. Mr. Browning was a commercial artist and safety engineer with United States Steel in Chicago, IL for 27 years. He also served as an assistant Scout leader with Troop 222 in Hammond, IN and was a great mentor for the young men and women in the community. Mr. Browning was of the Christian faith.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 69 years, Lona Frances Watts Browning of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters: Linda Abrami (John) of Texas and Billie Bowman (Roger) of Virginia; two sons: Leslie S. Browning of Spartanburg, and John E. Browning (Stephanie) of Missouri; two sisters: Marihalie Leeman of Maine and Barbara Anne Parris of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Browning was preceded in death by one sister, Dannie Lee Browning Burns; five brothers; Ned Erskine Browning and Leslie Edwin Browning who were both lost in combat and Kiffin Wilson Browning, Francis Harold Browning and Jamie Erwin Browning.
