Lewis Alvin Duncan was born on April 10, 1923 in Jefferson, Marion County, Texas, the son of Henry Alvin Duncan and Carrie L Hatcher. His mother had died in 1941. They had some family connections to the area of Pruett, Cass County, Texas.

He had enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces and served during World War II. Duncan had the rank of Second Lieutenant. Service number assignment was O-700422. Attached to 34th Bomber Group, Heavy, 7th Bomber Squadron as a Co Pilot.

Duncan lost his life on D Day June 6, 1944. He was the Co Pilot on the crew of B-24 Liberator #41-28838 "Misery Agent" on a mission towards Normandy on D-Day. They ran out of fuel and crashed and burned near the English coast killing all 9 crew members on board. They were still carrying twelve 500lb bombs at the time.

Lewis Alvin Duncan is buried at Plot F Row 4 Grave 95, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location.
