George Alge was born 27 July 1920 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio to Mark H. and Gladys M. (Deeds) Alge.

He married Mary Frances Holloway, of Pecos, Texas, March 28, 1944. Their son George William Alge, Jr. was born March 19, 1945, 17 days after Lieutenant Alge was killed.

2nd Lt George W. Alge graduated from Fostoria High School in 1938 where he participated in several school sports.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Airmy of the United States on 28 December 1941 at Fort Hayes, Ohio.

2nd Lt. George W. Alge flew P-38 USAAF-s/n 44-23589 (MACR # 12839). He was probably caught in a bomb-blast of proceeding aircraft, targeting locomotives. MACR gives time 9:30 hrs. By attacking a locomotive between Werdorf and Ehringshausen,

His body was found in the wreckage. Lt Alge was initially buried at the community cemetery of Werdorf.
