Alexander LeGerda, 79, of Allentown died Monday, Aug. 3, in Sacred Heart Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Shay" (Albert) LeGerda. They were married for 52 years in June.

He was a maintenance man for 1601 Realty, Allentown, for 14 years before retiring in 1992.

In 1942, he became the first Lehigh Valley resident to have his picture on the cover of Life magazine. He was the subject of a feature story in the magazine on work in the Army gunnery school in Las Vegas.

Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Elias and Mary (Krauss) LeGerda.

He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Allentown.

An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a sergeant with the 94th Bomber Group.

Survivors: Wife; daughter, Donna Shay LeGerda, wife of Aaron Kotzin of Soldotna, Alaska; sisters, Mary Shahda of New Orleans, Anna Noble of Quakertown and Helen Springer of Rosewood, Calif., and a granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Ave., Allentown; additional services at 11 a.m. in the church. Call 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday.
