Specialist Wood was a member of the U.S. Army Support Group, Joint Security Area, South Korea. He was killed when North Korean agents ambushed his truck which was taking United Nation Command guards to the Joint Security Area on April 14, 1968. Specialist Fourth Class Wood was awarded the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Defense Service Medal.
