B-26 like Capt Russell I Maurer flew in 26th Composite Group, 1942Added by: PrincessbarbiB-26 Marauder like Capt Russell Maurer On Oct 16, 1942, six B-26s belonging to the 28th Composite Group (The sole bomber echelon deployed in that area of operation), took off from the PSP runway of Adak, in the Aleutians, to attack two Japanese destroyers enroute to Kiska Harbour. They were loaded with ammo for the there isolated Japanese garrison. Capt Russell I. Maurer, scored a direct hit on the destroyer "OBORO" (Which means "The haze you can see at the Moonlight") and the ship sunk in a while.
