Description
Confederate War Memorial Chapel - 2900 Grove, RichmondThis is the Confederate War Memorial Chapel of the R. E. Lee Camp No. 1 Soldiers' Home of Richmond, Virginia and was Designed by Marion Dimmock. The soldiers living at the Camp, many Poor and Destitute, raised the funds through their own efforts, to have built this Gothic Revival Church. The Pelham Chapel served the spiritual needs of the Confederate Veterans, provided a meeting place, and became the sanctuary for more than 1,700 "Last Roll Call" Memorial Services. The Pelham Chapel has been certified by the National Register as an Official Confederate Memorial, and is now referred to and called the "Confederate War Memorial Chapel". The Chapel, when built, was dedicated by the Camp Confederate Veterans to all of the 260,000+ War Dead from the South, and Inscribed across the Arch in the Chapel: “In Memory of the Confederate Dead- In This Place I Will Give Thee Peace – Saith The Lord of Host”
