Nora (Stauffer) Pflieger (Holmes ) was born 14 Oct. 1885Birth: Oct. 14, 1885 Death: Mar. 16, 1971
Nora was the youngest living daughter of William and Ellen Stauffer Pflieger of Perkaise, PA. After high school Nora went to Millersville Teacher College for 2 years, until she realized that she was more suited to nursing. She attended Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia where she graduated in 1913 or 1914. She was the night supervisor of all nurses at the hospital when she married Harris Holmes in 1917. She was an active member of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown, which still today supports Doylestown Hospital. Nora had 2 daughters, Alta and Janet.
Nora met and married Harris (Not Harrison) Holmes in 1917, she was an "Old Maid" of 30 and Harris was an old bachelor of 40.... must have been ** Love at first sight ** :) Harris and Stoney were running the Doylestown Worsted Mill with their father Crossley Holmes. Harris being the most suited to the business part with his father. After the Holmes family purchased it in the early 1900's, Harris went to England for the LOOMS and it was renamed "Clear Creek Worsted Mill".
About 1915, Harris built a very nice, 2 story with basement / hewn BLOCK home on Main Street (290 N. Main Street ~ It exists still today, 2012 IN Doylestown, PA.) in front of the Mill itself. Harris would say that he "Built the Cage to catch the Bird"..... They were a perfect match and soon Alta arrived in July of 1918 and then 3 years later, Janet in 1920.
Because of Nora's *Advanced Age* Alta was born in the Jewish Hospital in Phila. I will ask about Janet... I am Alta (and Edward C Ennis') 2nd child, daughter Barbi and I remember my grandparents very well. Ed and Alta had 2 war-babies and 1 boomer and there was ALWAYS room on our Pop-Pop's lap for all of us :)
