Alice died at the age of 26 during the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918. I read the latest book about the flu and it said the most deaths occurred among pregnant women. It was her misfortune to be pregnant at the time she contracted the illness. Most of the people who died were between the ages of 20 and 40. It was actually their strong immune response to the infection that killed them. Pretty scary, huh?
