The Greek and U.S. Armies listed him as MIA from 1949-1954. In 1954 his status was changed by the Greek Amry to KIA. He was actually a POW in a labor camp in Albania alongside many other nationalities of POW's including U.S. POW's from the Korean War.

He told stories of executions on a regular basis and eating one meal a day, while working in fields from sunrise to sunset. No extra clothing was offered in the winter months and no ventilation was present in the summer months. Many died from starvation, while others committed suicide during the night. Beatings were a regular occurence and no medical aid was ever available.

He was released in 1956 in a mutual prisoner exchange between Albania and Greece. He was subsequently denied military benefits and was not found on any Greek or U.S. Army records. He was never bitter about his life, but alway told me to steer clear of any military obligation.
