SWANSON, HELEN A.
May 19, 1925 ~ March 18, 2008- Helen A. Swanson, 82, of Vancouver, WA, died
March 18, 2008 at Sunset Care. Helen was born May 19, 1925 in Oakland,
California to James P. and Margaret F. (Donoghue) Farley. She graduated from
Clairmont High School in Oakland. On February 27, 1949 she married Erle
Swanson, who kept their wedding date after snowshoeing out of Mt. Hood where he had
been marooned for a week. After high school she moved to the Vancouver
area, where she worked at the Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood. She later worked for
El Paso Natural Gas which became Northwest Pipeline. She retired in 1967
after 15 years. Helen enjoyed being home, raising children, traveling, and
gardening in her patio pots. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Swanson
of Vancouver, Jim Swanson of Seattle, Shelley Verdoorn of Palm Springs, CA,
and Terri and Charlie Johnson of Vancouver; also nine grandchildren; and one
great-granddaughter. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., April
19, 2008 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E. 12th Street, followed by a
reception at Jakes, 4602 A NE St. John's Rd. in Vancouver on April 19, 2008 at
2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in
Helen's name to her care facility, donation envelopes will be available at the
service.
