Edwin Walter FIELDS was born on 23 May 1909 in Bryson, Jack County, TX, USA. He died on 14 Feb 1969 in Graham, Young County, TX, USA. He was buried in Cottonwood Cemetery, Bryson, Jack County, TX, USA. He was the fourth son of Walter Lee FIELDS and Mary Louisa TRIPP.

Just shy of his 33rd birthday, Edwin FIELDS enlisted in the US army 18 May 1942 in Dallas, Texas. Private First Class FIELDS was honorably discharged 7 Oct 1945 at Point Camp in Bowie, Texas. Edwin FIELDS served in the African and European theatres of war, attached to a tank destroyer unit (unknown unit) and later to the 1853rd Service Command Unit, military police platoon.

Pvt. Edwin FIELDS saw action in the Sicily and Naples-Foggia campaigns earning the european theatre ribbon as well as a good conduct ribbon. In all he served in harms way, outside the US, from 24 Apr 1943 until 1 Sep 1944.

After the war, Edwin FIELDS remained with his widowed mother at the family ranch near Bryson, Young County, Texas. He worked in the oil fields as a "Single Pumper".

By 1960 he purchased a small house in Bryson where he moved his mother, who had fallen and broken a hip. A sister, Irene FIELDS-GILMORE, was called upon by the family to act a primary caregiver for her mother at this residence.

Edwin FIELDS had brown hair, brown eyes, and stood 6 foot tall at 200 pounds, in his prime. He was good-natured quiet man known by family and friends as someone they could depend upon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking cigars, and hearing a good story.

He never married, possibly because of the need to look after his widowed mother in her old age. However, a sister notes that he was on friendly terms with Clarabell KING and Ruby DENNING.

Funeral services were held at the Bryson Baptist Church. He is buried in the Cottonwood Cemetery, Bryson, Jack County, Texas.
