During WWII, my uncle Gene enlisted in the Army on the 17 Mar 1943 in the state of Missouri. He was assigned to the Jefferson barracks. He served in Europe and was a Private 1st Class in the infantry.

From 06 Sept 1944-19 May 1945 he was a POW in Germany, Camp 2. I don't know what his injuries were, but he was in a German hospital for part of the time. When he got home he told my grandparents that he was "treated well in the hospital". I never heard him talk about the time he spent in the camp.

Uncle Gene was lucky in that he was able to come home and his release papers were dated 20 Oct 1945.

I'm very proud of my uncle and his service to our country.
