Lt. Paulinski was with the 92nd Bomb Group / 407th Bomb Squadron.

Lt Casimir Paulinski went by the nickname of "Casey". He was the Co-Pilot aboard a B-17F, AC number 43-3184, named "USS Aliquippa". on 9/22/43 when it was attacked over the target by FW-190's damaging two engines on the aircraft.

The B-17 made an emergency landing with 3 men on board, none of them being injured. They get rid of conspicuous parts of their equipment and dressing and quickly leave the area. Police officers arrived on the scene ¾ of an hour later and civilians who were near the crash landing sight gave them false leads as to the direction that the airmen had taken to escape. The MACR did not identify the names of the three men, but at least the pilot and co-pilot were to be among them. The rest of the crew had bailed out of the plane when it lost altitude. The plane had been attacked by FW-190's and two engines were smoking, eventually losing power. Paulinski ordered the crew to bail out when the plane which was losing altitude, hit 3500 feet.

The crew consisted of pilot 2nd Lt. Henry J. Roeber; co-pilot 2nd Lt. Casimir J. Paulinski; Navigator; 2nd Lt. Donald J. McPhee;Bombardier; 2nd Lt George Sokolsky; the upper gunner; S / Sgt Walter T. Sybo; the left door gunner; Sgt Seymour N. Wolfson; the radio operator; S / Sgt Hubert F. O'Neill; the ventral gunner; S / Sgt Clayton C. Verlo and rear gunner S / Sgt Irvin Sumpter .

Three of the crew including the Pilot evaded the Germans for a number of months as the Belgian Underground attempted to return them to England. The remainder of the crew were captured with in a few days of the crash landing, including Lt. Paulinski, and were POW's until the end of the war. Lt. Paulinski, 2nd Lt. Donald J. McPhee, and 2nd Lt George Sokolsky were interred at Stalag Luft III
