Met and Married Elena Elvira Buonomo

Naples, Italy

After suffering injuries, Harold Eugene Harwell was stationed in Naples, Italy in 1945-46 timeframe.  It was there that he met Elena Elvira Buonomo, daughter of Salvatore Buonomo and Giusepina Grande Buonomo.  Elena worked on the American military base in the gift shop.  "Gene" and Elena were married in April, 1946, in Naples, Italy.  Elena arrived in America (Port of New York, New York, USA) on 27 July 1946 aboard the Thomas H. Barry, a steel-hulled, twin-screw passenger and cargo ship launched on 15 May 1930 as Oriente - acquired by the US War Dept June 1941 for Army Transport use.   Gene arrived back home in the US toward the end of 1946.

Their son, William Eugene Harwell was born on January 20, 1947 in Decatur, Alabama, USA.  Daughter, Alba Maria Harwell was born on October 10, 1954 in Decatur, Alabama, USA.
