JAMES A. GRUGAN, WAR II VETERAN, STRICKEN IN HOME

James A. Grugan, 50, of 155 Walnut street, was pronounced dead on arrival at Community Hospital, Sunbury, about 6:30 a.m. today, approximately a half hour after suffering a severe heart attack at his home. Mr. Grugan had arisen a short time earlier and was in apparent good health when he was suddenly stricken. Mrs. Grugan summoned the aid of his brother, Sidney Grugan, on discovering the plight of her husband. Americus ambulance was called, and Mr. Grugan was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Although not ill in recent weeks, Mr. Grugan had been under the care of a physician for some time. He was born in Lock Haven on March 20, 1909, a son of James L. Grugan, 138 Walnut Street, and the late Hannah Smithers Grugan. The family moved to Sunbury when Mr. Grugan was a young boy, and he was educated in Sunbury schools. He was married to Phyllis Thomas, New Columbia, in May, 1931, and the couple had resided in Sunbury since. Mr. Grugan was employed by the M. E. Wallace Company, Shamokin Dam. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife and father, two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Brown, York, and Mrs. Suzanne Frick, Sunbury; three grandchildren, four brothers, Sidney, Sunbury; Francis, Harrisburg; Robert, Sunbury, and Russell, Selinsgrove, and a sister, Mrs. Herbert Long, Northumberland. A brother, Percy Grugan, preceded him in death.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from Wirt funeral home, Cliftmont, in charge of Rev. David Volk, assistant pastor of Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Promfret Manor Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday evening.
