William Harrison Taylor Montgomery

World War II

William Harrison Taylor Montgomery joined the army on October 9, 1942 and his active service date was October 22, 1942. His occupation was a light mortar crewman in the 607 Company F, 314th Infantry Regiment79th Division. The Battles and Campaigns he was a part of were; Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. Starting on June 26, 1944 he landed on Utah Beach Cherburg, France andOn December 9, 1944 in Haguenau, Belgium during the Rhineland Campaign He was hit in the back by a mortar shellto his chest and back. The doctors didn’t believe he would live but after numerous surgerieshe did. He was a paraplegic from then on. After being released from the hospital on April 13th 1945 in Paris, Francehe lived in Fall River Ma with his sister Sarah (Peg) and her family until he died on June 16, 1994in Boston,MA.
