Stephen Joseph Lozinski born on 2 December 1917 in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Class of 1935 Altoona High School.

Assigned to 8th Air Force, 401st Bombardment Group (H), 615th Bomb Squadron at RAF Deenethorpe near Corby, Northamptonshire, England.

On 16 Feb 1945, he flew as the Pilot aboard B-17G Flying Fortress serial #44-8371 ("Badland Bat II") on Mission #209 to bombard the railroad marshalling yards at Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

His B-17 aircraft was hit by extremely accurate flak in the nose, at bombs-away. The nose appeared to melt off, with the aircraft peeling over to the left, breaking in two at the waist, and the wings came off; crashing near Oberscholven.

Only the Bombardier, Lt. Harold E. Hughes, survived (POW).
