The 445th (B-24) Bomb Group (H) was stationed at the RAF Tibenham, Norfolk, England. Tibenham became home to the 445th Bombardment Group (Heavy) of the United States Army Air Forces Eighth Air Force. The 445th arrived from Sioux City Army Air Base, Iowa on 4 November 1943. (Info from family and friends :) Born November 24, 1925 in Burlington, Iowa. Joined the US Army in 1943 from Burlington, Iowa and arrived in England in 1945. Flew 8 combat missions as ball turret gunner in the B-24s from a base NE of London near Norwich, England. Wayne was at same base Jimmy Stewart (Commander, served earlied then 1945 when Wayne arrived) in same Group and Squadron. Wayne told his mother he flew on the raid to Dresden, Germany. Advanced to rank of Buck Sargent. Did not stay in the reserves.

After the war, Wayne attended the University of Iowa on the GL Bill and got a degree in business. He was married with two daughters. Wayne died in 1983 in Burlington, Iowa from complications of Huntington's Disease.
