Lt Clifford Karrels was a WWII P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter Pilot with the 86th Fighter Group, 525th FS over Italy - Shot-down 3 Oct. 1944

Lt. Clifford A. Karrels was shot down approximately 2 1/2 mile southeast of the town of Vignola in north central Italy (west of Bologna). He survived and was captured by German soldiers. He spent the remainder of the war imprisoned at Stalag Luft 1 located at Bath, Germany on the coast of the Baltic Sea. He, along with over 7,000 fellow prisoners, was liberated by the Russian Army in early May, 1945.
