The escort was Spitfires. 700 rounds of ammunition was expended. 288 x 20 lb frags were dropped in train from 6000 ft. Lt. Adcock and crew failed to return. He was last seen with his left engine smoking. It was later confirmed by two Spitfire pilots that the ship went down behind enemy lines.
