Shadrack was listed in the muster roll of the North Carolina, Buncombe County Third Regiment. He appears on 225 in the document, or page 222 in the PDF and appears as Shadrack Guthry.

A requisition was made by Major General Thomas Pinckney for one Regiment to march to the defense of the Southern Frontier of the Sixth Military District of the United States. In consequence of which, orders were issued from this office, calling forth the Detached Militia from the following counties - Anson, Cabarrus, Moore, and Richmond, to rendezvous at Wadesboro, in Anson County, on February 24, 1815. Also to - Ashe, Buncombe, Burke, Haywood, and Rutherford counties - to rendezvous at Wadesboro, in Anson County, on March 1, 1815. The officers of this regiment were - Andrew Irwin, as Lt. Colonel Commandant; John McGimpsey, of Burke County, as Lt. Colonel; Jesse Allen, of Wilkes County, as Major; and, Thomas Lenoir, of Haywood County, as Major.

On Aug 30, 1813, the Creek Indians waged war on the western frontier of the United States by capturing Fort Mimms on the Alabama. Many settlers had been warned by friendly Indians that the Creek were on the war path and had retreated there for shelter. More than 400 men, women and children were massacred. The Creek were attacked by forces from all the nearby states. In early 1815, General Pickney brought in the boys from Buncombe county along with the rest of them listed above to reenforce Andrew Jackson. They were used to man a string of new forts built throughout the Creek territory. This show of force put an end to the Indian War. The result was that Pickney signed a treaty with the Creek and two other hostile tribes involved. The treaty designated the southern boundary of the United States from the Spanish colonies of East and West Florida to middle of the channel of the Mississippi River as the western boundary.

So, the land is Mississippi granted to Shadrack Guthry was land he literally fought to win.
