Pvt. Paul Emil Auger (1910-1944) 31380995

PAUL EMIL AUGER was born on May 21, 1910 in Thompson, Connecticut, the son of Paul Auger (b. ca. 1890) and Laura Auger (b. ca. 1891). His mother, Laura, was born in Canada.

In 1920, the family lived in Thompson, Windham, Connecticut. Besides PAUL, Jr., the family consisted of Louie (b. ca. 1913) and Theresa (b. ca. 1917). Paul, Sr. worked as a blacksmith.

In 1930, still living in Thompson, Paul, Sr. now was a salesman of automobiles. Both boys, PAUL, Jr. and Louie, worked as auto mechanics.

By 1940, PAUL, Jr. was married. He and Helen Auger lived in Thompson, and PAUL was working as a garage mechanic.

PAUL E. AUGER enlisted on August 13, 1943 in Hartford, Connecticut. He would be assigned to the 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division, nicknamed "The Blue Devils in Italy."

By May, 1944, the unit was in central Italy. The unit was commanded by Maj. Gen. John E. Sloan, and were pushing through the Minturno-Tufo-Santa Maria Infante-Pulcharini area.

May 11-12, the unit was in the area of Santa Maria Infante. On May 12, 1944, Pvt. PAUL EMIL AUGER was killed by artillery shell fragments.

Pvt. PAUL EMIL AUGER is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy; Plot H, Row 7, Grave 61. Findagrave.com #56306160
