Joseph Hairychin

Joseph Hairychin was born on October 20, 1925, at Bullhead in Corson County to Joachim and Victoria Hairychin. In 1942, at the age of 17, he wanted to join the Navy. After he completed his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, he was sent to the South Pacific on the ship U.S.S. California. One year later Joseph's father, Joachim Hairychin, received the sad news from the War department that his son had died. He died at the age of 18 on August 23, 1944, in the South Pacific. His death was caused when he was pinned up in the engine room of the naval ship he was stationed on. Four years later, the War Department brought his body back to be buried. He is now buried at the Bullhead Cemetery next to his father.
