Mary Anne, known as Anne, attended Newport Grammar School and Cocke County High School; in 1954 she graduated from East Tennessee Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Knoxville, Tennessee, affiliated with the University of Tennessee.

She married Dr. Alfonso Sale Estefano, 4 September 1954, at Arlington Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1956, she, her husband, and first born child Daniel moved to Camaguey, Cuba, where they resided until April 1960. Upon returning to the United States,after more studies, she was Board Certified as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse and worked at the Department of Mental Health.

Past president and member of the Gay Gardeners Garden Club, former member of the American Nurses Association, the Palmetto Club, and member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, South Carolina, Anne was an avid reader who loved the game of bridge and spending time at her beach house.
