BRAWNER CATES, LOCAL MANAGER, DIES SUDDENLY

Brawner Cates, Jr., manager of Noland Company, this city, died unexpectedly at 2:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 980 Northern Avenue, aged 37. Death was due to a heart condition.

Mrs. Cates was a native of Richmond, Va., and was transferred from Charlottesville, Va., by Noland Company last July. He suffered from a heart ailment and had been in the hospital but was thought much improved.

He served overseas for some 13 months with the Marines as a first lieutenant.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Kiwanis Club as well as various veteran organizations.

Born in Richmond, he was a son of Brawner and Ella Merchant Cates.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Curley Cates;

Thomas Enright,

John Bainbridge and

George Timothy Cates, and

daughter, Helen Sue, all at home;

Mrs. John E. Sommers, Newport News,

Mrs. W. L. Schultheis, Richmond, Va.

The body was removed to the Suter-Rouzer Funeral Home and will be taken to the Frank A. Bliley Funeral Home at 217 West Grace Street, Richmond, where friends may call before the funeral tentatively arranged for Monday morning in All Saints Episcopal Church in Richmond. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond.
